I was at the airport coming home from a conference when I saw a smoothie shop that looked like it made delicious smoothies with tons of flavors to choose from. After the plane ride I was starving so I was really excited to check out what they had on the menu.
At the counter I told the sales associate that I wanted a strawberry smoothie without knowing how the smoothie was made or blended. To say the least I was very disappointed with what I saw next.
As I was watching my smoothie being made there was no fruit being added whatsoever. In the corner of the counter there was a dispenser of flavors and as I was watching red goop being added to the bottom of my cup.
Ice and a sugary bottle of puree were also added into my cup. I couldn’t believe it. I went from starving and excited to drink a strawberry smoothie to very disappointed and not so hungry anymore.
As soon as I got the smoothie it looked like a normal smoothie but I saw all of the nasty ingredients that were mixed into it. All of that sugar, potentially harmful chemicals, artificial sweeteners, and most likely 20 additional ingredients I wouldn’t touch with a 4 foot pole.
The smoothie had zero nutrition and would have just forced my body into fat burning mode if I drank it. It’s no wonder that so many people have become overweight during the years. They think they’re drinking healthy smoothies but secretly packing on the pounds with tablespoon after tablespoon of sugar.
So what did I do next with this smoothie you may be wondering? I threw it in the next garbage can I walked by proceeding to get my luggage. The next time I’m going to get a smoothie, I’ll have to make it from home or ask the sales associate what ingredients are included in the recipe.
Be very cautious when you’re ordering drinks off the menu. Always ask the server what ingredients are in the drink if it’s questionable.
I’ll most likely avoid the hassle and just make my own smoothie from home next time. I find that even if I’m hungry I’m better off avoiding all the chemicals and waiting until I can drink a healthier smoothie at home. Do you love smoothies? Where do you usually get your smoothies from or how do you make yours? ')}
