Coconut oil has been used for thousands of years and it’s a type of fat that contains a high concentration of medium chain triglycerides (MCT). It is also a powerful anti-bacterial that can help remove toxins from our bodies.
A popular ancient Ayurvedic Indian tradition, that has been around for thousands of years is called oil pulling.
It’s a very unique way of using coconut oil, which actually happens to be one of my favorites. I’ll share with you how you can start oil pulling shorty, but first, let me explain some of the benefits of oil pulling.
Oil Pulling has become very popular and it’s a great way to remove bad bacteria and viruses from your mouth, freshen your breath, and improve your oral health. I personally oil pull several times a week and I think you’ll enjoy the benefits when you start too.
Step By Step: How To Oil Pull
First, you need to grab 1 tsp or tbsp of coconut oil. I would recommend starting with a half tsp if you’re new to oil pulling, because it’s something you’ll need to get used too. Once you become more comfortable with the process, you can work your way up to 1 tbsp.
Second, you should start swishing the oil around your mouth, being careful NOT to swallow the oil. Once the oil starts to melt in your mouth, you’ll be able to swish more and more. It’s similar to using mouth wash accept coconut oil is thicker.
Third, swish the oil around your mouth gently for around 20-30 minutes. If it’s your first time then you can start with 10 minutes and work your way up each day.
You’ll notice that the oil will accumulate some toxins and saliva. This is normal and if you fell like you’re about to swallow any of the oil, then just spit it out and start over.
Oil Pulling is a great way to improve your oral health, it’s even been effective for reducing cravings with some of my clients. It’s also nice to have fresh breath and it feels refreshing.
