[Restaurant Alert] Avoid This At All Costs

Avoid This At All CostsEating at restaurants is great when you’re traveling or taking the night off from cooking a meal at home. Unfortunately at every single restaurant I go to, I run into this same problem virtually every single time.

After we sit down at the dinner table and order drinks it happens. The waiter walks over and drops it right in front of everyone at the table. It’s the dreaded breadbasket. Some restaurants serve bread sticks, others serve white bread, and in some cases you’re left with wheat bread (whole grains).

This basket of gluten can be compared to smoking a cigarette. The white bread would be a cigarette and the wheat bread would be a “healthier” cigarette.

Grains are recommended on the food pyramid to be eaten up to 10 times per day, which is absurd. It’s one of the main reasons so many people have become obese in the past few decades.

For the majority of people gluten causes inflammation resulting in cramps, stomachaches, and the feeling of being extremely full. Wheat also contains Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) that have been tested and resulted in the production of tumors in rats.

Another side affect that has been reported is not being able to focus and concentrate clearly for a couple days. Gluten can really throw you off track if you’re not careful.

White and wheat pasta just like bread can be addictive. Consuming too much wheat or white breads interferes with brain signals resulting in you eating more and more, packing on unwanted belly fat.

Eating bread can lead to celiac disease (a disease from eating too many grains), which includes your body not being able to absorb essential vitamins and nutrients to stay healthy.

Avoiding bread can be extremely hard if you’ve been eating it your entire life…

The bread you see on the dinner table is not the same as early settlers ate hundreds of years ago. As mentioned earlier modern grains are GMO. This means that scientists in a lab are engineering this food to increase yield to produce more crops.

If you’re considering the elimination of bread in your diet then you’ll want to start slow. Gluten is in more things than you may have thought of. The list includes crackers, most processed foods in the middle aisles of your local grocery store, potato chips, etc.

The Gluten Solution

Tell the waiter you want to send the breadbasket back. This will remove the temptation of eating the bread since it’s sitting right in front of you. You can also ask for a salad to start with right away to keep your mind off the bread.

If you must consume bread and you find it hard to eliminate from your diet then try to limit yourself to eating it a couple times per week. We all love to indulge at least once a week on our favorite foods.

I personally choose 1 or 2 days that I eat bread, or you can use the 80/20 rule, which includes eating 80% whole foods and 20% anything else. Do you think you have a gluten intolerance? Let me know you thoughts below! ')}
