Pesticides are used to help protect fruits and vegetables from pests that eat them. And even though we wash our fruits and vegetables before we eat them, they still can contain pesticides as sown in recent tests.

In some cases the pesticides have made it through the skin of some fruits and vegetables, making pesticides impossible to avoid when consuming certain fruits and vegetables. Pesticides should be avoided because they have been linked to cancer and many diseases.

If you’re trying to eat healthier on a budget, then you can still do it by eating conventionally grown foods. However you must buy the following 5 foods in their organic form because they contain many types of pesticides that can put a toll on your health…

Apples

According to research done by the Environmental Working Group, they found that 99% of apples tested positive for 1 or more pesticides. It’s a much healthier choice to choose apples that are organic.

Strawberries

Since the outer peel of strawberries is eaten, it’s a good idea to buy strawberries organic. They were found to contain over 13 different pesticides on them. 13 is a considerable amount of pesticides that you’ll want to avoid.

Potatoes

You should choose organic potatoes to avoid a big dose of pesticides. Potatoes contain the most pesticides by weight over any other tested fruit or vegetable researched by the Environmental Working Group.

Spinach

Very important to buy organic spinach to avoid pesticide residue. Since there is no outer shell on spinach, you must either grow it yourself or buy an organic version that restricts harmful pesticides from being used.

Bell Peppers

Peppers are great for your health. However, they were found to contain 13 different kinds of pesticides on them. Peppers are the 5th food that I would strongly recommend you buy organic if possible. Avoiding pesticides as much as possible will increase your lifespan and keep you healthy.

You’ll typically want to buy foods organic if you’re going to be eating the outer peel or shell of the food. This will protect you from any toxins, chemicals, or bacteria that could be on the outer layer of your foods you eat.

Thankfully organic fruits and veggies are not too expensive to buy. It’s mainly the organic meats and poultry that are the most expensive to buy organic. That’s another story for another time though…
